The Lord is alert and active! He is THE LION!
These scriptures together provide a powerful reminder of God's unwavering faithfulness and the assurance that His Word will come to pass, protected and executed by the might of Christ.
Jeremiah 1:12
Then said the Lord to me, You have seen well, for I am alert and active, watching over My word to perform it.
Revelation 5:5
But one of the elders said to me, "Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals."
Jesus is vigilant and faithful in protecting and fulfilling His Word. The verse from Jeremiah 1:12 highlights God's commitment to His promises, showing that He is constantly watching over His Word to ensure it is fulfilled. This reminds us that God's Word is living and active, and nothing can thwart His plans.
Revelation 5:5 reassures us that Jesus, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, has triumphed and is worthy to open the scroll and its seals. This victory signifies His supreme authority and power to bring about God's plans, as well as His role as the rightful heir to fulfill the prophecies and promises found in Scripture.
Furthermore, Jesus prevails through His life, death, resurrection, and ongoing reign. His victory is multifaceted and deeply significant in the context of Christian faith:
1. Victory Over Sin:
- Sinless Life: Jesus lived a sinless life, perfectly fulfilling the Law of God. This qualified Him to be the spotless Lamb, the perfect sacrifice for sin (Hebrews 4:15).
- Sacrificial Death: On the cross, Jesus took upon Himself the sins of the world, bearing the punishment that humanity deserved. Through His death, He broke the power of sin and provided a way for humans to be reconciled with God (1 Peter 2:24).
2. Victory Over Death:
- Resurrection: Jesus' resurrection from the dead is the ultimate proof of His victory over death. It demonstrated His power over the grave and ensured that death would not have the final say. His resurrection is the guarantee of eternal life for all who believe in Him (1 Corinthians 15:54-57).
3. Victory Over Satan:
- Defeat of Evil Powers: Jesus’ death and resurrection also signify His victory over Satan and the forces of darkness. By triumphing over them, He disarmed spiritual powers and authorities, making a public spectacle of them (Colossians 2:15).
- Future Judgement: Revelation describes how Jesus will ultimately defeat Satan and evil once and for all, casting them into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:10).
4. Victory in the Fulfillment of God's Plan:
- Opening the Scroll (Revelation 5:5): Jesus prevails as the one worthy to open the scroll and its seals, symbolizing His authority to bring about the fulfillment of God's redemptive plan. This includes the ultimate restoration of creation, the judgment of evil, and the establishment of God's kingdom.
5. Victory Through His Ongoing Reign:
- Intercession and Kingship: Jesus continues to prevail as He intercedes for believers at the right hand of the Father and reigns as King of kings. His reign ensures that God's purposes are being accomplished in the world (Romans 8:34; 1 Timothy 6:15).
6. Victory in Believers' Lives:
- Empowerment and Transformation: Through the Holy Spirit, Jesus empowers believers to live victoriously over sin and to grow in holiness. His victory becomes theirs as they are transformed into His likeness (Romans 8:37; 2 Corinthians 3:18).
Jesus prevails by being the perfect fulfillment of God's redemptive plan, overcoming all powers of sin, death, and evil, and ensuring the ultimate establishment of God’s kingdom. His victory is both a historical reality and a future hope, bringing redemption and renewal to all who trust in Him.
