Mailbox! Communication and encouragement! (Object lesson #7)

See introduction from part 1 for clarity.

Let us continue with our last object lesson.

Mailbox: (Object lesson)

We will start with the following portions of God's word.

Acts 1:4-5
4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, "which," He said, "you have heard from Me
5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." (NKJV)

Question. Have we heard from Jesus today?

Here are a some insights.

1. The Father always has spiritual mail for us. He always has something encouraging to say to us. Maybe some discipline as well.

2. Realize, the Scriptures are filled with encouragement, and God is the God of encouragement.

Romans 15:4-5
4 For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.
5 May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus,
(ESV)

3. Our Holy, Righteous Father is waiting for His children to communicate with Him every day. He is very patient.

4. We should go to our spiritual mailbox daily, which is prayer and the Bible. He will meet us there.

5. God's children need to stay alert to His instant messages throughout the day. More than our devices.

6. Communicating with the Father is not a onetime thing and then we are all done.

7. Our righteous Father is alive, well, ready, loving, powerful and able, the list goes on, I would say forever.

Let us go a little deeper. What does the Lord think about His children? The following is encouraging!

Jeremiah 29:11
11 For I know the thoughts (H4284) that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts (H4284) of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. NKJV

Hebrew definition for the word “thoughts”: OT: 4284: A feminine noun meaning a thought, a purpose, a device, an intention. Largely poetic in its use, this Hebrew word means thought or the inventions that spring from such thoughts. (From The Complete Word Study Dictionary: Old Testament)

Dictionary definition for the word “inventions”: Discovery, finding, and productive imagination

More insights:

1. As we stay in heartfelt sincere prayer and study, we can expect God to deliver a message to us for our sake and the sake of others.

2. Our mailbox will always be full. God is waiting for our response, and this includes thanksgiving and honor to Him.

3. Realize that actions needs to take place to read what God is saying to His children.

One character quality to think about. God shows worth to His children by paying attention to them without distractions.

Attentiveness vs. Unconcern
“Showing the worth of a person by giving undivided attention to his words and emotions.” *(IBLP)

Change needs to take place. See if you agree.

Realize we are talking about communication with the Father and people.

Think about when people are talking to each other and their iPhone rings, and they say, "hold on, I need to take this call." Or when the family is eating dinner... or fellowshipping and everyone is on their iPhone or device.

We need to show worth to people by putting down our iPhone or device when talking to each other.

Has anyone talked to someone and at the same time they are on their iPhone? Where is the worth of that person?

For all those who like to go deeper. Allow me to ask you a question.

What does, "wait for the Promise of the Father, "which," He said, "you have heard from Me" ,  Acts 1:4 mean?

This relates to a spiritual communication with God. It needs to be revealed and applied for all those in Christ and not hidden.

Acts 1:4-5
4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, "which," He said, "you have heard from Me
5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." (NKJV)

Consider the following as you ponder about the question and Acts 1:4-5.

I fear God and when I see Jesus’ face to face, I desire to be certain as I can that I preached and taught His Word without compromising and with no doubting. Furthermore, to provide God’s people, with the FULLNESS of the gospel of Christ.

Therefore, my desire and goals are to fear God, provide His whole purpose and plan and counsel to the family of God, and fully preach the gospel of Christ!

Romans 15:29

But I know that when I come to you, I shall come in the fullness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ. (NKJV)
