The Pattern

Speaking in Tongues Conclusions, keys to understand

Let us continue in our final part of this essential series.

I do not have the words to express how important this subject is. I guarantee that every born-again person is going to need this blessing as we see more corruption in this world. Especially the younger generation who are tied up with many devices. Ask Jesus if He believes in this subject but be careful not to insult Him with unbelief.

Click here. More clarity. Speaking in tongues! Ask Jesus.

Speaking in tongues build up our inner man.

1 Corinthians 14:4
“He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.” (NKJV)

1 Corinthians 14:4
“He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth #3618 (Build, build up) himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.” (KJV)

Speaking in tongues provides strength to obey God’s word assisting us in controlling our thought life and enabling us to control our tongue or what we say.

As we continue to renew our mind with corresponding actions and build our spirit through speaking in tongues, we can keep our thought life under control and our tongue under subjection.

This will also support us in keeping any member of our body under subjection. (Consider James 3:3-12)

Realize that it is not the tongue that needs help but rather our choices of what we are placing in our hearts.

Consider these portions of God's Word.

Mark 7:20-23
“And he said, "What comes out of a man is what defiles a man. 21 For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, fornication, theft, murder, adultery, 22 coveting, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. 23 All these evil things come from within, and they defile a man."

Public use of tongues!

Question. What about the public use of speaking in tongues, like in a church service or assembly?

First, when people are baptized in the Holy Spirit they will have the ability to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance. (Acts 2:4)

Secondly, speaking with other tongues in public assembly with interpretation edifies the church.

Paul plainly stated that to prophesy is to speak unto men “to edification, and exhortation, and comfort”
(I Corinthians 14:3).  But he said, “Greater is he that prophesies than he that speaks with tongues, except he interpret” (I Corinthians 14:5).

Paul is saying that tongues with interpretation are equivalent to prophecy i.e. if the utterance in tongues is interpreted so that the church can understand what is said, then the one prophesying is not greater.

I learned this from one person in my walk of faith. (Distinctions using two nickels and one dime)

To illustrate, two nickels equal one dime. However, the two nickels are not a ten-cent piece.

Prophecy is the dime, the ten-cent piece.

Naturally, it would be better to have the dime (prophecy) than to have the nickel (an utterance in tongues).  But, if interpretation (another nickel) went along with it, then the two would be equivalent to the dime.

Prophesying is not preaching or teaching.

If prophesying were preaching or teaching, then we would not have to make any preparation to preach or teach.

But we have to study and prepare to preach and teach.” “Paul said, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God…”
(Read 2 Timothy 2:15 AMP)

We do not have to study to prophesy. This comes by inspiration of the Spirit. However, to ensure our prophesying is sound, studying God's Word is essential. God's Word is our plumb-line.

Of course, when one is preaching or teaching under the inspiration of the Spirit, and suddenly he says things he or she never thought of, that is inspiration and is an element of prophecy.

Tongues with interpretation!

Tongues with interpretation edify the church or the assembly.

When used in line with the Word of God, speaking with tongues with interpretation convinces the unbeliever of the reality of the presence of God, and often causes him to turn to God and be saved.

Conclusions for this session:

Jesus said, “And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons”
(Mark 16:17).  “That can be private or public.”  “They will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover”
(Verse 18).  “That can be private or public.”  “Another sign is,” “They will speak in new tongues” (Verse 17).
“This too, is both private and public.”

We do not want prolonged praying in tongues in the service because unless there is an interpretation, people do not know what is said and are not edified. This causes confusion.

If people in the service are lifting their hands and praying, it is all right to pray in tongues. (Character qualities of Jesus needed for things to be done decently and in order.

We need to know how to use what we have to the greatest advantage by the leading of the Holy Spirit.
(Romans 8:14)

Consider this portion of God's Word.

1 Corinthians 14:39-40
39 “So [to conclude], my brethren, earnestly desire and set your hearts on prophesying (on being inspired to preach and teach and to interpret God's will and purpose), and do not forbid or hinder speaking in [unknown] tongues. 40 But all things should be done with regard to decency and propriety and in an orderly fashion.” (AMP)

The key to understanding this subject of “tongues” and the ability to operate in it is faith.”
(Hebrews 11:3; Galatians 3:14)

Speaking or praying in tongues is a result of being baptized in the Holy Spirit.

Speaking or praying in tongues is also one of the signs that follow those who believe. (Mark 16:17)

The baptism in the Holy Spirit is how a believer can become clothed with power. (Read Luke 24:49) It widens their capacity for God’s work.

Vital! The baptism in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking or praying in tongues does not save a person.

This subject has its origin in God the Father, who gave the promised Holy Spirit.” (Acts 1:4; Luke 24:49)

Jesus is the One who baptizes in the Holy Spirit. (Acts 1:5; Luke 3:16)

The Holy Spirit is the One who gives the believer their prayer language-tongues. (Acts 2:4; 19:1-7).

How can a person be baptized in the Holy Spirit and speak in tongues?

The baptism in the Holy Spirit is entirely a matter of faith.

God has already given the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost.

There is no need to beg God to be baptized in the Holy Spirit. (Receiving the promise of the Father Acts 1:4-5)

Anyone who is saved is ready to be baptized in the Holy Spirit. (Receiving the promise of the Father Acts 1:4-5)

Here are some things you can expect before, during and after  being baptized in the Holy Spirit.

You will sense the Holy Spirit upon your vocal cords and your lips.

Your mouth will feel a little dry like cotton.

The Holy Spirit is going to give you supernatural words not taught by any school or person.

The Holy Spirit will give you the words to speak but you are the one who speaks.

Consider the following verses. Read out loud, it will increase your faith level. (Read Romans 10:17)

Acts 2:4
“And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” RSV

Acts 10:46
“For they heard them speaking in tongues and extolling God.” RSV

1 Corinthians 14:2
“For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit.” RSV

1 Corinthians 14:18 (Paul speaking)
“I thank God that I speak in tongues more than you all;” RSV

After you pray in English or your natural language to be baptized in the Holy Spirit, do not speak your natural language. You cannot speak two languages at once.

After you pray the prayer (Below) be relaxed and be bold.

Your tongue will seem to want to say something.

Lift your voice and begin to make those supernatural sounds that want to come.

Let the words flow like a river. (Read John 7:37-39)

Realize that you are going to work your tongue, lips and lungs as you would if you were speaking in your normal language.

Expect the Holy Spirit to give you words. This takes faith.

Once again, you are the one who will speak, and the Holy Spirit is the One who will give you the words.

When you sense the Holy Spirit moving on your lips begin to speak any sounds easy to speak regardless of what they are.  That is faith.

Continue to speak out loud praising God with those supernatural words until a free, clear language comes and you have the inner assurance that you have received. See video below to know what I mean!

The prayer: Dear heavenly Father, I thank You for Jesus who baptizes people in the Holy Spirit.  Baptize me in the Holy Spirit through Jesus and I thank You that I will speak in tongues as the Holy Spirit gives me the words in Jesus name amen.

Open your mouth wide- this is an act of faith, breath in and speak.

Once we receive our prayer language use it every day.

If we do not use it, we will lose it, but it can come forth once again.

Thank you for listening, reading, learning and applying God's Word in this series. By faith, enjoy speaking and praying in your new prayer language not taught in a school or college course but by God Himself!

Consider the following to provide rest and a refreshing. Plus, the subject of the baptism with the Holy Spirit.

Isaiah 28:11-12
11 “For with stammering lips and another tongue He will speak to this people,
12 To whom He said, "This is the rest with which You may cause the weary to rest," And, "This is the refreshing"; Yet they would not hear.” (NKJV)
