Lasting Results Session 2 Part 1 Character needed!

Welcome everyone!

This teaching is in document form only, with special features.

Note: To maintain focus, read everything on the page before viewing the videos and going to the links. Thank you.

(1) Let us begin another part of the series, “Lasting results”.
(Session 2)

(2) In God’s word we see the character qualities of Jesus and others played out in life situations.

(3) Therefore, God’s word and character qualities go together.

(4) I gave one example in our last teaching,1st Timothy 6:9-11. (This was in part 17 audio)

(5) Let us look at it once again.

1 Timothy 6:9-11
But those who crave to be rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish (useless, godless) and hurtful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction and miserable perishing.

10 For the love of money is a root of all evils; it is through this craving that some have been led astray and have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves through with many acute [mental] pangs.

11 But as for you, O man of God, flee from all these things; aim at and pursue righteousness (right standing with God and true goodness), godliness (which is the loving fear of God and being Christlike), faith, love, steadfastness (patience), and gentleness of heart. AMP

(6) Does anyone see any character qualities in these verses in God’s word?

(7) Once we become mindful of character, we will begin to see it in God’s word.

(8) Today I will give the second example.

(9) Second example. Notice how many character qualities are in these verses entwined with God’s word.

2 Peter 1:3-4
His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, 4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, that through these you may escape from the corruption that is in the world because of passion, and become partakers of the divine nature. RSV

2 Peter 1:5-8 (One key word is develop)
5 For this very reason, adding your diligence [to the divine promises], employ every effort in exercising your faith to develop virtue (excellence, resolution, Christian energy), and in [exercising] virtue [develop] knowledge (intelligence),

6 And in [exercising] knowledge [develop] self-control, and in [exercising] self-control [develop] steadfastness (patience, endurance), and in [exercising] steadfastness [develop] godliness (piety),

7 And in [exercising] godliness [develop] brotherly affection, and in [exercising] brotherly affection [develop] Christian love.

8 For as these qualities are yours and increasingly abound in you, they will keep [you] from being idle or unfruitful unto the [full personal] knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One). AMP

(10) I repeat, the word and character qualities go hand-in-hand.

(11) We can study the Bible and learn:

(1) How it was written
(2) History
(3) People
(4) Events
(5) Facts
(6) Much Knowledge

(12) This is all good and wonderful, yet character development needs to be at the top of our list.

(13) We need to operate God’s word in the character qualities of Jesus.

(14) By doing so, we will become believable to those around us. (See link below)

(15) We can learn about the Bible and accumulate knowledge and that is good.

(16) We could even be the Bible answer man but at the same time, not the changed man or person.

(17) Knowledge is great, and absolutely needed however keep in mind that knowledge can cause people to become puffed up and prideful. (See video below)

1 Corinthians 8:1
We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies. NKJV

1 Corinthians 8:1
But although being a "know-it-all" makes us feel important, what is really needed to build the church is love. TLB

(18) Not only that, but God hates pride. (See video below)

Proverbs 8:13
The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverse mouth I hate. NKJV

(19) The remedy for pride is humility.

James 4:6
But he gives more grace; therefore it says, "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble." RSV

James 4:10
Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will exalt you. RSV

(20) When I taught a while ago, I mentioned how to avoid the bit and bridle. (See video below)

Psalms 32:9
Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding, which must be curbed with bit and bridle, else it will not keep with you. RSV

(21) For lack of understanding people will get worn out. (Reminding/Reminded)

(22) Therefore, more understanding is about to happen to avoid getting all worn out.

(23) Almost all of the following pertains to character development.

(24) These qualities will assist the believer to overcome and not be controlled by the bit and bridle.

(25) #1 Alertness vs. Unawareness
“Being aware of that which is taking place around me so that I can have the right responses to them.” *(IBLP)

(26) (Wisdom) Be alert so we can respond. To respond takes God’s word rightly divided otherwise, we will react with our emotions, in other words our unrenewed mind.

(27) #2 Obedience vs. Willfulness
“Freedom to be creative under the protection of divinely appointed authority.” *
(IBLP)

(28) If we are not obedient, we are willful.

(29) If we desire freedom from the bit and bridle, we need to be obedient.

(30) The lack of obedience causes a person to be policed. (Controlled with bit and bridle)

(31) Some teenagers and adults need to be policed.

(32) They must be watched on a regular basis.

(33) #3 Initiative vs. Unresponsiveness
“Recognizing and doing what needs to be done before I am asked to do it.” *(IBLP)

(34)  (Wisdom) Practice doing things before we are asked, otherwise we can expect the bit and bridle.

(35)  A person can always tell when this quality is not working. They are always being reminded. (Being reminded equals bit and bridle)

(36) Realize that some people just need the bit and bridle.

(37) #4 Responsibility
vs. Unreliability
“Knowing and doing what both God and others are expecting from me.”  *(IBLP)

(38) If our spouse (or anyone) is expecting something from us (and we know about it) and it does not get done, we can expect bit and bridle.

(39) We are being unreliable.

(40) Children need their parents to be reliable. (See link below) (Parental assistance /Valuable information)

(41) #5 Decisiveness vs. Double-mindedness
“The ability to finalize difficult decisions based on the will and ways of God.” *(IBLP)

(42) A decision needs to be made to start the process of being free from the bit and bridle.

(43) #6 Determination vs. Faintheartedness
“Purposing to accomplish God's goals in God's time - regardless of the opposition.” *(IBLP)

(44) Determination will also be needed in the process otherwise we will give up or be fainthearted.

(45) Opposition will raise its head to prevent us from developing this excellent character quality of Jesus.

(46) Another resource: Determination vs. wishful thinking
“What we hope to do with ease, we must first learn to do with diligence.” (Unknown resource)

(47) Character development (In any area) will not be easy at first but afterward if we are diligent it will become easier.

(48) Character development can also be very painful.

Hebrews 12:11

No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it's painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way. NLT

(49) If we think no effort or pain is involved for character development, its wishful thinking.

(50) People can have knowledge of God yet again without the true character qualities of Jesus (developed to some degree) they will become unfruitful, unbelievable and ineffective.

(51) #7 Diligence vs. Slothfulness
“Visualizing each task as a special assignment from the Lord and using all my energies to accomplish it.” *(IBLP)

(52) If Jesus asked us today to begin the process of character development (special assignment) would we do it?

(53) If we keep hearing Jesus say, “Develop in character” and we do not respond, we are experiencing the bit and bridle from Him.

(54) It can come as a bridle or bit and bridle. (Gentle or harsh-our choice)

(55) #8 Cautiousness vs. Rashness
“Knowing how important right timing is in accomplishing right actions.” *(IBLP)

(56) The next few statements are instructions for those who remind others.

(57) Be careful how we remind people or use the bit and bridle.

(58) Two ways to go, (1) be gentle (Bridle) or (2) harsh (Bit and bridle)

(59) Even though the bit can be put on with gentleness as well.

1 Corinthians 4:21

What do you wish? Shall I come to you with a rod, or with love in a spirit of gentleness?

(60) #9 Sensitivity vs. Callousness
“Exercising my senses so I can perceive the true spirit and emotions of those around me.”  *(IBLP)

(61) Emotions run high when reminding people or being reminded.

(62) (Wisdom) Be sensitive to the emotions of people.

(63) People are not, pieces of furniture.

(64) #10 Faith vs. Presumption
“Visualizing what God intends to do in a given situation and acting in harmony with it.”  *(IBLP)

(65) (Wisdom) See from God's perspective in each situation involving bit and bridle.

(66) (Wisdom) Move in harmony with the Holy Spirit as a team and come to His conclusions.

But the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will cause you to recall (will remind you of, bring to your remembrance) everything I have told you. AMP

Note: The reason why I use these character qualities is because no ministry or anyone that I know is doing it with intensity. I might not agree with all ministries, however, personally, I will receive the spiritual wheat, and remove the weeds, sticks, and bones. No ministry is perfect, but we must work together advancing God's kingdom the best we know how. Without the true excellent character qualities of Jesus, we as God’s children will not be believable!
