Fire crews from across San Diego County have responded to calls for assistance to fight two brush-fires raging in Northern California, officials said Sunday.

Fire crews from Alpine, Santee, Lakeside, Viejas, Barona, Heartland Fire and Rescue, Poway, Rancho Santa Fe and the city’s San Diego Fire-Rescue Department were dispatched late Saturday and early today to help crews battle the Bald Fire in Shasta County and the Lodge Lightning Complex Fire in Mendocino County, Lakeside Fire Captain Mark Grow said.

Local crews were dispatched on Saturday at 10:25 p.m. as part of a strike team to battle the Lodge Lightning Complex Fire, according to a statement by the Alpine Fire Protection District.

That fire is near Laytonville, about 100 miles south of Eureka, had burned 2,200 acres and was 10 percent contained as of 9:45 a.m. today.

Alpine Division Chief Brad Rushing was the strike team leader in charge of crews from Santee, Lakeside, Viejas, Alpine, and Barona, according to the statement. Alpine Fire said it would remain fully staffed at its local stations.

And just after midnight today, other San Diego-area crews were requested to respond to the Bald Fire in Shasta County, Grow said. That fire was about 65 miles east of Redding, and its 34,832 burned acres were 5 percent contained at 10:40 a.m. today.
